Arsenal News Today: Manu Koné on Gunners’ Summer Shortlist

Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Roma midfielder Manu Koné as Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta continue preparations for the upcoming season.

According to Italian outlet Corriere della Sera, the Gunners have already made initial inquiries about the French midfielder, although no formal offer has been submitted at this stage.

After securing the Premier League title and establishing themselves among Europe’s elite, Arsenal are expected to focus on strategic additions rather than a major squad overhaul. The club’s priority positions are believed to include striker and left wing, while midfield reinforcement could also be on the agenda if departures materialize before the new campaign.

Koné has emerged as a potential target thanks to his versatility and impressive performances in Serie A. The 25-year-old has been one of Roma’s standout midfielders, earning recognition as one of the division’s most exciting talents.

Primarily deployed as a box-to-box midfielder, Koné is equally capable of operating in a deeper role, offering tactical flexibility that could appeal to Arteta. His ability to carry the ball through midfield and drive transitions has become a defining feature of his game, qualities Arsenal may view as valuable after occasionally struggling to progress quickly through the middle of the pitch last season.

The French international remains under a long-term contract with Roma, meaning any potential deal is unlikely to come cheaply. Reports suggest the Italian club would demand at least £43 million for the midfielder, with his valuation potentially rising if he delivers strong performances at the upcoming World Cup.

Despite the significant financial commitment required, Arsenal are believed to be in a strong position to invest this summer. The club’s growing revenues and improved financial standing have provided greater flexibility in the transfer market, allowing them to pursue key targets while remaining compliant with financial regulations.

While Arsenal’s summer business has been relatively quiet so far, interest in Koné could signal the beginning of a carefully planned recruitment strategy aimed at strengthening a squad already capable of competing for major honours on multiple fronts.
