Pep Guardiola Calls Arsenal the Best Team in the World Amid City Slump
Pep Guardiola admits Arsenal as the best team in the world right now… for now, as his Manchester City side continues to struggle in the Premier League title race.
With Arsenal currently sitting pretty at the top of the table, seven points clear after 22 matches (15 wins, 5 draws, 2 losses & 50 points), its no surprise theyve set a new standard across all competitions.
Guardiola had this to say: “Absolutely, [Arsenal are] the best team right now in the world. Look in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup—they are the best team right now.” He added that City must improve to close the gap: “Hopefully we can be close, get better and better. Give us one chance to catch them.”
Arsenal’s Impressive Form and Defensive Strength
Arsenal’s incredible form and defensive solidity has them looking pretty much unbeatable this season (just 2 league defeats all season).
Their solid defence and all-round consistency has even seen them level out a game against City in the early season meeting, and their return trip to the Etihad in April cant come soon enough.
The Gunners havent been beaten in 12 matches across all competitions and its a testament to their depth & resilience.

Manchester City’s Recent Slump
City’s recent wobble however has seen them go winless in their last 4 league matches (3 draws, 1 loss).
Theres been a sharp decline in form, including a shocking 3-1 thumping away to Norwegian outfit Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League – a real lowlight that highlights the scale of Citys current struggles.

Guardiola is well aware of the need to turn things around.“We cannot lose games… We have to change the dynamic and win games tomorrow and next Wednesday.”
Injury Concerns Impacting Both Sides
Arsenal is getting some welcome injury news ahead of a really big stretch of fixtures, with defenders Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie rejoining training after missing out for the past little while.
This is a big boost for Mikel Arteta, even if Max Dowman is still out of action for a while yet due to that nasty ankle problem he’s been battling & should be back in the mix around mid-Feb.
Right now, though, Manchester Citys in a bit of a bind at the back. They’re without some big names on defense – Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, and John Stones are all ruled out for the time being.
Marc Guehi is due to make his debut against the Wolves on Saturday – & you’d expect him to get a run out to help stiffen up Citys back line.
Theyve also got Matheus Nunes coming back from a spell of illness and Nico Gonzalez is touch and go for a start.
City’s Chance to Respond Against Wolves
The Wolves are heading to the Etihad on Saturday, which gives City a decent chance to get their heads back above water before facing even tougher tests.
Guardiola made it clear how much this game matters: “We cannot do it stick with one Man City line-up… We have to win games.”

As it stands there are 16 league games left to go, and its clear that Arsenal is in pole position to take this league title.
The Gunners are in good nick & have got a bit of extra backing from Pep’s comments – (he reckons theyre the ones to beat this season).
