Fabrizio Romano Confirms Oleksandr Zinchenko Deal
On X Romano posted:
“Ajax verbally agree on deal to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal, here we go! Agreement in place over loan until June, leaving Nottingham Forest. Zinchenko will fly in next 24h for medical tests in Amsterdam. Ajax will cover his salary, deal in place”
Zinchenko is getting on a plane to Amsterdam sooner rather than later, so he can get the medical tests out of the way & all parties – Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Ajax & player – are completely on the same page.
Oleksandr Zinchenko’s Nottingham Forest Loan Ends Early
Zinchenkos move to the Dutch top flight is a pretty swift resolution to his pretty tough time at Nottingham Forest
Zinchenko joined up in the summer of 2025 looking for a regular game but just couldnt quite get the runs on the board at the City Ground. Injuries , his own form issues & the tactical choices of the club’s management all threw up barriers to him making an impact.
Forest had already made it pretty clear they were happy to pull the plug on the loan earlier than planned , which made AJs interest a bit of a godsend by allowing them to bring the loan to a close a bit early.

Ajax will cover Zinchenkos wages for the rest of the season, which will make things a bit easier for both Arsenal & Forest to deal with.
End of an Era for Oleksandr Zinchenko at Arsenal

This loan signals the effective end of Zinchenko’s time at The Arsenal, because his contract was set to run out this summer of 2026.
Zinchenko arrived from Manchester City and straight away became a key player in Mikel Arteta’s early team tactics – he really made a name for himself with his ability to shift from left-back into midfield and help with keeping possession of the ball.
However, we’ve seen some talented young players like Myles Lewis-Skelly come along and Riccardo Calafiori has been playing like a superstar – that pushed him right down the pecking order, and as a result he’s only been getting limited chances and it’s led to that initial loan to Forest.
A Fresh Start for Oleksandr Zinchenko at Ajax
This move to Ajax is a great chance for Zinchenko to kick-start his career all over again in a league that’s famous for its emphasis on technical football – and the kind of possession-based style that really suits his playing style.
Playing in the Johan Cruyff Arena lets the Ukraine international show off his skills as a left-back or in central midfield – it might even attract some attention from other clubs who are looking to sign him up on a permanent deal in the summer when he becomes a free agent.
For Ajax, this signing gives them some experience, a bit more versatility and a top Premier League player to add to the mix as they battle it out in the Eredivisie and European competitions.

As Zinchenko gets ready for his medical in Amsterdam, this move is a win-win for all parties – it gives the player a fresh start, gets Forest off the hook from an unhappy situation and gives The Arsenal some clarity on where they stand with their squad planning.
