Christian Norgaard Responds to Arsenal Exit Rumours Amid Ajax Interest
Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard has firmly dismissed rumours linking him with a mid-season exit from the club, amid reports of interest from Dutch giants Ajax.
The 31-year-old Danish international, who joined the Gunners from Brentford in the summer transfer window, has faced limited playing time in the Premier League this season but remains fully committed to proving himself under manager Mikel Arteta.
Christian Norgaard Limited Minutes at Arsenal Since Summer Arrival
Since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium, Norgaard has struggled to secure a regular starting spot in midfield. He is yet to make a single Premier League start for Arsenal, accumulating just 31 minutes across three substitute appearances in the league.
The experienced midfielder has seen more action in cup competitions, where he has even filled in at centre-back on two occasions to cover injury absences.
However, competition from established stars like Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi has restricted his opportunities in central midfield.
Norgaard has not been named in the matchday squad for Arsenal’s last two Premier League fixtures, highlighting his peripheral role so far this campaign. Despite this, he has made six starts overall this season, with those defensive shifts showcasing his versatility.

Norgaard Ajax Links Surface in January Transfer Window

Recent reports in Dutch media, including from De Telegraaf, have claimed that Ajax are seriously considering a move for Nørgaard this month. The Amsterdam club, seeking an experienced defensive midfielder to add leadership and stability to their squad, views the Dane as a strong candidate due to his Premier League pedigree.
Ajax’s interest comes as they pursue seasoned professionals rather than relying solely on youth development, with other targets reportedly including players like Liverpool’s Wataru Endo and Manchester United’s Manuel Ugarte. This follows their recent acquisition of Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, raising speculation about a potential double raid on the Gunners.
However, Arsenal are unlikely to entertain a mid-season departure for Nørgaard, given their ongoing challenges across multiple competitions and focus on squad depth.
Norgaard’s Positive Response: Fully Committed to Arsenal
In a recent interview, Nørgaard played down any suggestions of leaving Arsenal after just six months at the club. He emphasized his happiness in London and the mutual satisfaction in his relationship with the team.
“I am really, really happy here,” Nørgaard said. “The message that I get from the club is that they are really [happy] as well. So, for me, it is a mutual relationship that right now is working really good.
“It is developing. It is a learning curve for me as well. I need to also improve and show the tactics that Mikel is showing are getting under my skin. Hopefully coming into the last part of the season I can contribute more on the pitch.”
The Dane acknowledged the adjustment from his prominent role at Brentford but remains determined to embrace his current responsibilities.
Christian Norgaard Handling Frustration and Supporting the Team
Nørgaard admitted that reduced minutes naturally bring some frustration, describing it as a normal reaction for any competitive player. However, he stressed his focus on channeling that energy positively to benefit the squad.
“It has been a fantastic experience for me so far this season,” he added. “Obviously, I would love to play more minutes – but the minutes that I have had so far I have really enjoyed. Even though I am not playing as much, I still try to contribute with everything around the group.

“I knew that it would be a different role here than I had at Brentford. And I try to embrace it as much as possible. Of course, I do feel some sort of frustration when I don’t play – but I think that is really normal.
“It is about how do you change that frustration to a positive energy that you can then transmit to your team-mates.”
Looking Ahead: Norgaard’s Focus on Future Contributions
As Arsenal push for success in the Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cups, Nørgaard’s attitude highlights his professionalism and team-first mentality. With the season entering its crucial phase, the midfielder is optimistic about increasing his involvement and helping the Gunners achieve their ambitions.
Fans and analysts will monitor his progress closely, but Nørgaard’s clear message is one of dedication to Arsenal amid ongoing transfer speculation.
