Arsenal maintained their six point lead at the top of the Premier League in a nervy 0-0 draw against Liverpool, but it came with a hefty price – the relentless injuries to the back four just keep on coming.

Summer signing Piero Hincapie went down in the second half, joining the growing legion of absentees that Arsenal’s defence is now sporting. Manager Mikel Arteta says the club is waiting on scan results to see just how bad it is.

Because of all the defenders missing, they had to resort to moving midfielder Christian Norgaard into defence in the FA Cup tie against Portsmouth as they juggled a really packed fixture schedule.

Hincapie was limping badly by the second half against Liverpool, and his visible pain left no room for doubt.

The Ecuadorian, who was having to play left-back because of Riccardo Calafiori’s ongoing absence, was given treatment for a bit but then eventually had to be replaced by Myles Lewis-Skelly. Now Arsenal are sending him for scans, which should give them a better idea of what we’re dealing with.

Arteta did say that Calafiori would be out for the match against Liverpool, but then he gave a bit of a glimmer of hope saying something about ” pretty soon”

The 15 year old Max Dowman is going to have to miss out for about couple of months after picking up ligament damage to his ankle in a friendly against Manchester United

This had the knock on effect of him being pulled out of Arsenal’s Champions League squad with Gabriel Jesus coming in to replace him.

Arteta said at the time that Dowman had to come off in that friendly, and scans showed he’d be out for a good few weeks.
