Arsenal Emerge as Front-Runners to Sign Georgia Stanway on Free Transfer
Arsenal are in pole position to snap up England midfielder Georgia Stanway who’s confirmed she’ll be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
The 27 year old will be available on a free transfer after deciding against renewing her deal with the German giants , a decision that will have been a blow to Bayern who were keen to keep hold of her.
Arsenal are well ahead of the game in the transfer stakes
Arsenal are in a pretty strong position in all of this, and they’ve been keeping a close eye on how things are shaping up with Stanway as part of their planning for next season.
That follows the decision to extend Head coach Renee Slegers’ contract and bring on board former England international Jodie Taylor as the club’s new technical director – and that’s clearly a big part of their long term strategy.
A star turn in Germany
Stanway made the switch from Manchester City to Bayern in 2022 and has been a key player during what’s been a really successful period for the club.

She’s picked up three Bundesliga titles and has been a mainstay of the team in domestic and European competition and as a result, she’s established herself as one of the most consistent midfielders in Europe.
Stanway makes it clear she’s off
Stanway has now confirmed her decision to leave , and was full of gratitude for the time she’s had in Munich. ” I’m massively grateful to FC Bayern ” she said , then added a hint that she knows she’s got some unfinished business to attend to ” Thankfully , my time here isn’t up yet “
She was honest about how tough the decision was to make but said she remains completely committed to the club until the end of the season. ” I’ll give my all for the club and all that brings right to the end of my contract ” she said. ” I want to say goodbye with as many titles as I possibly can “
A fond farewell from Bayern
Bayern’s director of women’s football Bianca Rech paid tribute to Stanway . ” Not only did Georgia make history as our first English player but also , she stole our hearts ” she said. ” We’ll always be grateful for the time she spent with us and we wish her all the very best for the future “
A huge catch for Arsenal
Arsenal’s interest in Stanway is a real coup for them – she’s an established international with a proven track record of winning league titles and competing at the highest level in Europe.
If a deal is done, she would walk into the club as a bonafide senior signing – not some younger player looking to join up and work her way up the ranks.
