Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris didn’t hold back in his praise for Arsenal following his team’s heavy defeat on Saturday. The Black Cats fell 3-0 away to the Premier League leaders, but Le Bris was quick to call Mikel Arteta‘s side the standout team across the continent right now.

The result sees Arsenal stretch their advantage at the top of the table to nine points, piling pressure on their title rivals ahead of the weekend’s other big games.

Arsenal Dominate at Home with Clinical Finishing

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners produced another commanding home display at the Emirates Stadium. Martin Zubimendi opened the scoring with a fine strike in the 42nd minute, before substitute Viktor Gyokeres came off the bench to seal the win with two second-half goals.

Sunderland, still adjusting to life back in the Premier League as a newly promoted side, struggled to create clear chances. They managed only three shots on target across the full 90 minutes, highlighting just how tight and well-drilled Arsenal’s defence and midfield remained.

The victory keeps Arsenal firmly in the driving seat for the title, with their blend of organisation, depth and attacking quality proving too much once again.

Le Bris Full of Praise: “Maybe the Best Team in Europe Right Now”

In his post-match comments, Regis Le Bris was generous in defeat, repeatedly underlining how far ahead Arsenal are at this moment.

“We are still a newly promoted side against maybe the best team in Europe at the minute,” Le Bris said.

“They’ve built this team over many years. We’re not at the same stage and we have to take the lesson. It’s important to build on strong foundations and improve those details.”

He went on to describe Arsenal’s performance in glowing terms:

“They are impressive, really well organised, hard to beat, many threats coming off the bench as well so this depth is really important especially with wingers and creative players because they can make the difference at the end of the game and often the game is a bit different, the players are a bit more tired, and when you have those players you can go all the way and they were really impressive.”

When directly asked whether Arsenal have the squad to go all the way and win the Premier League title this season, Le Bris didn’t hesitate:

“Yeah, I think so.”

Arsenal’s Press and Depth Cause Sunderland Problems

Le Bris pointed to specific areas where Arsenal’s quality shone through. Their aggressive pressing, especially from the front players, repeatedly forced turnovers and disrupted Sunderland’s build-up play.

“The score is the score, they were relentless with the ability to seize the opportunities we gave them because it was the turnovers and the organisation of their press,” he explained.

“They are top of the league, they are top of the Champions League so you know they have good qualities.”

He admitted his side lost too many balls in dangerous areas:

“We feel the experience, we feel the quality, but I repeat, the score is the score and we have to take this lesson.

“They built this team over many years, we feel they have this experience, they are well-rounded in every part of their game… A bit disappointed because we knew before their control press was really good, so we lost five or six balls, I think it’s too much against them. I think for the two first goals it was like that.

“In the final third, they have good defenders, they are really well organised, so it’s hard to break.”

Lessons for Sunderland in a Tough but Valuable Afternoon

Despite the result, Le Bris struck a positive note for his players. Facing one of the strongest sides in Europe offers a clear benchmark, and he believes the experience can help Sunderland continue their impressive adaptation to top-flight football.

For Arsenal fans, hearing such high praise from an opposing manager only adds fuel to the belief that this could finally be their year. With depth, organisation, and clinical finishing all clicking, the Gunners look in ominous form as the season enters its decisive phase.
