Matheus Cunha Calls Arsenal the ‘Best Team in the World’ After Emirates Clash
Manchester United produced a thrilling performance to defeat Premier League leaders Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
The result extended United’s impressive revival under caretaker manager Michael Carrick, who has now secured statement wins against top opposition following Ruben Amorim’s departure.
Arsenal began strongly and took an early lead through an own goal from Lisandro Martinez. However, Bryan Mbeumo equalized for United before halftime, setting the stage for an end-to-end contest.
Late Drama Seals United’s Win
The game swung back and forth in the second half. Patrick Dorgu restored United’s lead with a stunning strike, only for Mikel Merino to bundle home an 84th-minute equalizer from a corner, seemingly rescuing a point for the Gunners.
Momentum appeared to favor Arsenal, but United responded immediately. Matheus Cunha delivered a brilliant curled effort in the 87th minute to secure a rare away victory at the Emirates and hand Arsenal a significant blow in the title race.

Cunha’s High Praise for Arsenal
Post-match, summer signing Matheus Cunha hailed Arsenal as the “best team in the world” despite the defeat they inflicted. Speaking to BBC Sport, the Brazilian forward emphasized the challenge of facing Mikel Arteta’s side:
“I think we showed character and power in the group. We know what to expect, come here, I think it’s the best team in the world today, honestly. They play with Mikel [Arteta] so long, they know every single tactics, every single thing that he feels, so we know how hard it will be to come here, but we are United and everything we do is to win the games.”

Carrick’s Influence Boosts United Spirit
Cunha also credited Carrick’s leadership for fostering unity and resilience. The former United midfielder, back as caretaker, has instilled a strong team ethos:
“He knows the feeling, he played here so many years. He knows the feeling for Manchester, he knows the feeling for United. He knows how the fans want to feel. He tried to show us every single moment, he tried to talk us to understand in moments and say ‘everyone is against us’, so I think we feel more together.”
Carrick himself reflected proudly on the performance:
“It was a good day. I think we had to put a lot into that game, an awful lot. Credit to the boys, so proud of them. We had to sustain some attacks, especially earlier on and we grew into the game. We had a setback, come back strong, had a setback towards the end, come back strong. So many elements to the game that were good.”
Title Race Implications
The weekend’s results have narrowed Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League to just four points. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s back-to-back victories—following their earlier win over Manchester City—have propelled them into the Champions League qualification spots, leapfrogging teams like Liverpool and Chelsea.
Carrick noted the positives despite the early stage of his interim tenure:
“We’re so fresh whether it’s 10 days in, two games, it’s never going to be perfect at this stage, especially coming against a team like Arsenal, but there were so many positives to take and we’ll keep adding to it in days and weeks to come. The boys have been fantastic in terms of taking things on, wanting to do it and investing into it. You can see what it means to them at the end.”
