Gary Neville hailed Arsenal as “the real winners” of the weekend after Tottenham mounted a dramatic comeback to hold Manchester City to a 2-2 draw in north London.

Gary Neville didn’t hold back in his assessment of the Premier League weekend. The former Manchester United defender and Sky Sports pundit pointed straight to Arsenal as the big beneficiaries after Tottenham Hotspur staged a remarkable comeback to snatch a 2-2 draw against Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This result handed Arsenal a healthy six-point lead at the top of the table, boosting their title hopes at a crucial stage of the 2025/26 season.

Tottenham’s Nightmare First Half Turns into Second-Half Fightback

The game started in nightmare fashion for Tottenham and their head coach Thomas Frank. Manchester City looked in complete control, racing into a 2-0 lead by halftime thanks to goals from new signing Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo.

The home crowd was quiet, then frustrated — boos rang out as the players headed down the tunnel after a disjointed and lacklustre display.

It felt like a procession for Pep Guardiola’s side, with City appearing set for a routine away win against a struggling Spurs team sitting mid-table.

But football has a habit of surprising us. Tottenham emerged for the second half like a different team altogether. Dominic Solanke, making only his fifth league start of the campaign, became the hero. The striker netted twice in a 17-minute spell to level the scores and earn a valuable point for his side.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, Neville called it “a bizarre, bizarre game.” He noted how low the atmosphere felt at halftime — almost “sad” in the stadium — before praising Frank’s players for turning things around.

“They’ve played a second half that will have taken quite a lot of pressure off Frank,” Neville said. “There’s a smile from Thomas Frank… who would have thought that 45 minutes ago?”

He didn’t stop there, though. Neville turned his attention to Manchester City, pointing out familiar problems.

“For City, it’s another bad one where they have demonstrated again their defensive vulnerabilities, their complacency,” he added. “And Arsenal are the real winners.”

Neville, who has previously backed Arsenal to lift the title this season, sees this dropped points as a significant blow to City’s challenge.

Jamie Redknapp Salutes Tottenham’s Grit and Solanke’s Impact

Fellow Sky pundit Jamie Redknapp, a former Tottenham player, was equally impressed by the comeback spirit.

“The dressing room must have been a really dark, difficult place for everybody concerned,” Redknapp reflected. With key defenders Cristian Romero (the captain) and Micky van de Ven unavailable for the second half, things looked bleak.

Yet the players dug deep. Redknapp highlighted standout performances from Xavi Simons, Joao Palhinha, Conor Gallagher, and Pape Sarr, who brought energy and fight when it mattered most.

He also underlined how vital Solanke has been when fit — and how much Tottenham have struggled without him this season.

“It just showed you as well how much they’ve missed Dominic Solanke,” Redknapp continued. “That’s been really difficult for the manager because you saw his quality today.”

From Tottenham’s perspective, Redknapp felt the point deserved celebration after recent heavy criticism.

“We have to congratulate them because they’ve been battered by everybody.”

How the Result Boosts Arsenal’s Title Charge

Arsenal made the most of City’s slip-up. Mikel Arteta’s side had already thumped Leeds 4-0 the day before, ending a disappointing run that included a 3-2 loss to Manchester United.

That win, combined with City’s draw, leaves Arsenal sitting pretty with a six-point cushion over second-placed City (who have a game in hand in some standings views, but the gap feels significant).

It’s been a dream 48 hours for the Gunners, who responded perfectly after recent stumbles. With a midweek Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea looming, Arsenal now turn their focus to extending their advantage when they host Sunderland in the Premier League next Saturday.

Why This Weekend Matters in the Premier League Title Race

The Premier League title race is heating up, and results like this can shift momentum. Manchester City, usually so reliable, showed defensive frailties once again. Tottenham, under pressure, found a spark that could lift spirits around the club.

But as Neville made clear, the real smile belongs to Arsenal fans right now. The Gunners are in the driving seat, and weekends like this remind everyone just how tight — and unpredictable — the battle at the top can be.
