Carragher Claims Arsenal’s Final-Third Quality Could Cost Them the Premier League

Arsenal are flying. Four points clear. Playing bold, confident football.

But here’s the twist — not everyone’s convinced they’ll go all the way.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has stirred the pot, claiming Arsenal may fall short in the title race for one big reason: no attacking superstar.

And honestly? It’s sparked a real debate.

Carragher’s Blunt Take on Arsenal’s Front Line

Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher didn’t hold back.

He said:
“I made a comment about Arsenal about a month ago on the back of picking my Premier League team of the season so far.

“People talk about their mentality – I actually think Arsenal have a great mentality. But their problem could be a lack of quality in the final third.

“When I watch Arsenal, I don’t think they’ve got an absolute superstar in the front four or five players. I thought Saka and Odegaard were going to get there a couple of years ago.”

“I thought they were ready to almost become the best players in the Premier League. I still don’t think Arsenal have got one of them.

“So people talk about mentality with Arsenal, but what I think could actually stop them [in the title race] is actually quality.

“I think we would all agree that Arsenal are the best team this season, but Man City have been there before, even if it’s not a vintage City.”

Strong words. Especially when you consider Arsenal have scored the second-most goals in the league.

But Carragher’s argument isn’t about numbers. It’s about presence. That one player who walks onto the pitch and you just know… he’ll decide it.

Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard Under the Spotlight

This is where it gets uncomfortable.

Carragher pointed directly at Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard — two players many believed were ready to dominate English football.

A couple of years ago, they looked unstoppable. Sharp. Fearless. Ready to explode into that elite bracket.

But this season? It hasn’t quite clicked.

Saka has just four Premier League goals. Odegaard has only one.

For players of their quality, those numbers feel… light.

Still, context matters.

Injuries Have Interrupted the Rhythm

Let’s not pretend it’s been smooth sailing.

Saka suffered a hamstring injury during that 5-1 demolition of Leeds back in August. He missed five matches. Just as he was settling again, he damaged his hip in the warm-up before the 4-0 win at Elland Road.

Stop. Start. Stop again. That kind of rhythm disruption hits attackers hardest.

Odegaard hasn’t had it easy either. Shoulder issues early in the season. Then an MCL injury in October during the 2-0 victory over West Ham.

When your creative heartbeat isn’t fully fit, everything feels slightly off-tempo.

And yet, the expectations remain sky-high. That’s the price of progress.

Mentality Isn’t the Question — Experience Might Be

Carragher was clear about one thing — mentality isn’t Arsenal’s weakness.

He actually praised it.

The issue, in his view, is cutting-edge quality. That killer instinct in tight title races.

And here’s the uncomfortable truth: Manchester City — led by Pep Guardiola — have been here before. Again and again.

Even if this isn’t their “vintage” season, they know how to close.

Arsenal? They’re still learning how to finish the story.

Big Week Ahead: Wolves and a Fiery North London Derby

There’s no time for overthinking now.

Arsenal return to action against Wolves at Molineux. Win that, and the gap stretches to seven points.

Seven.

That would send a statement.

Then comes the north London derby. Spurs away. High tension. New energy under Igor Tudor in his first match in charge.

If ever there was a moment for a so-called “superstar” to step up… this is it.

So, Is Carragher Right?

That’s the real question, isn’t it?

Do Arsenal truly lack that one transcendent attacker? Or are Saka and Odegaard simply navigating a difficult season with grit instead of glamour?

Because here’s the thing — sometimes titles aren’t won by superstars.

Sometimes they’re won by teams.

And right now, Arsenal look like one.

But in April and May, when margins shrink and pressure tightens your chest… you need someone to grab the game.

We’re about to find out if that player is already in red and white.

Or if Carragher’s warning proves painfully accurate.
